Almost everyone likes these guys but I hate them...Enormous success, but kind of like The Buffalo Springfield if they made a solemn vow to suck, or The Byrds if they suddenly suffered brain damage...

Agreed, but Hotel California paints a perfect portrait of Southern California vapidity.

Perhaps so, and I don't dispute the point- but the riff is essentially the same as a song called We Used to Know from Jethro Tull when they were young, hungry, and still good...
