This notion was bandied about a bit by me and some of my cronies when we were teenagers. Idiotic notion, but we were fairly idiotic teenagers. A few of us were very much into punk rock at the time, and figured if the Ramones and the Sex Pistols could do it, why not us? If I do say so myself, I have a horrible voice and no stage presence at all, but because I couldn't play an instrument, I was elected singer. One guy played drums fairly well (he improved a bit over the years and once was in a band that appeared on TV's Uncle Floyd show; then again, everybody and his brother appeared on the Uncle Floyd show at one time or another), another guy had just started playing bass guitar (in time, he became reasonably proficient at it and still plays in a band when he's not working as a wall-paperer), and another guy said he could play lead guitar...I never saw any evidence of his ability to play, but he did at least own a guitar. Because we seldom had 2 coins to rub together, we hung out a lot at the local Knights of Columbus Hall killing time and trying to determine where we were going to acquire money for booze, and they allowed us to "practice" there; unfortunately, we had no songs, no idea of what exactly we wanted to do, and, ultimately, no interest, and the idea sort of withered on the vine (to the eternal gratitude of music fans everywhere).
