05/11/2008 | Let's try reading some books. Jefferson, Madison, and Franklin (along with other founding fathers who didn't have theologians at their deathbeds) were Englightenment-era age of Reason thinkers who just left (LEFT) a theocracy based on a religious leader (king) and wouldn't be stupid enough to do it again. The public demands of the day demanded (in some documentation) a reference to a deity but many of the framers of the government were overt or subtle in their contempt of organized religion. Some clever thinkers were deists ('a god but not one interested in my day-to-day affairs- the du jour of the day) And of course, ours is the intelligent Constitution with no god- which makes it the most intelligent governmental framework since its inception. You can believe that the framers of the gov't were christ lovers, but make sure to keep your opinions near illiterates who have no sense of history. Read any (any) books concerning Adams, Jefferson, Madison, or Franklin and you have (at best) a philosophy of a distant deism but nowhere near the revisionist history of the devout-christ-loving-new-jerusalem-creators you espouse. It's simply one of the funniest untruths I've read here in quite some time. |
