Eric Johnson

Texas based soloist that makes his Stratocaster sound like a violin. He follows the regulation scale/chord/mode patterns so rigidly that he and his backup band all sound like they are on autopilot. All the rough edges are so well polished off that his stuff ends up sounding like some type of generic rock Muzak. In one ear and out the other as far as I am concerned! Gong! Strictly for the High School day at the races guitar aficionado crowd!

 


Limpin' Trenchfoot

If anything he's a very underrated player who's not really even feted within guitar freak circles in the way that Vai, Satriani, Petrucci and Malmsteen are. His main problem is his patchy material and a weak voice but as a player there are few who are more versatile.

08/16/2008		I agree with you that he is often overlooked in technical guitar circles, but his material is patchy? I have three of his albums, I adore all three, and I rate Ah Via Musicom as one of the top five albums ever released!
