I have had fellow teachers who were/are excessive brown-nosers, but it was also because the principal literally demanded it (this man was an egomaniac to the nth degree). What I had a problem with is that this excessive brown-nosing often resulted in teachers and employees snitching against each other just so they could get on the good side of this egomaniac principal. You could not even say a bad word or make any criticisms against this man for fear that you would suffer dire consequences (no joke). For me, I like giving compliments if and when the time calls for it, and make critiques when things are askew. But I'm not willing to stroke someone's ego and sell myself (at the expense of others) just to get ahead. I still want to maintain a sense of pride and dignity, if I have little else to offer.
