I had been feeding Natural Balance Duck and Potato for years. I have four Dachshunds and a Doberman. Like others, I noticed the inconsistency
of the look of the kibble with each bag. And sometimes the dogs would have very loose stools.
But last month one of my older dachshunds became very ill with Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis. He spent 3 days at the hospital. His only source of food was the Natural Balance. The other dogs had some diarrhea. So I decided to change their food. When I returned the Natural Balance to PetCo they were very surprised. I know it has been considered to be a top food, but I just could not take the chance with my dogs.
After a lot of research, I switched them to Wellness Super5Mix. The shape of this kibble was a problem from the beginning. I think the triangle shape was difficult for the dachshunds to eat. It looked painful for my two older dachshunds. And all the dogs just didn't much care for the taste. They all had nice solid stools and their overall energy level increased, but I would have almost full food bowls after their dinner, and they would pick away at it but never eat it all. My oldest dachshund, who is a chow hound, pretty much turned his nose up at it every day!
So I researched again and found out about Orijen. It was available through a feed store in my area, so I decided to give it a try.
Orijen was an instant success with my dogs!! They loved it. For the first 1 1/2 weeks I mixed the Wellness with the Orijen to convert the dogs over. I watched my dachshunds patiently take kibble in their mouths, spit out the Wellness and eat the Orijen. There would be a pile of Wellness left in their bowls.
Now all the dogs feel fantastic. My 12 and 13 year old dachshunds are actually running around and playing again like puppies...they feel great! No diarrhea, no loose stools, no bad gas (from the Doberman) and they all can't wait for their mealtimes.
I am so grateful to have found Orijen. Now I can trust that my dogs are eating properly.
