Oil Companies

James76255

Oil companies only do bad. They aren't like environmental groups that only look out for your best interest by blocking attempts to drill oil domestically so we can step closer to becoming energy independent, or by blocking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from going forward with a project to prevent a Category 5 hurricane from flooding New Orleans. It's not like that would ever happen anyway, right?

As a great man once said, all seriousness aside... When gas prices keep getting higher and the oil companies are making record profits, there's obviously something funny going on. However, nobody seems to want to do anything about it. We can produce our own oil for far less per barrel than we can get it from the Middle East, but for the last 30 years or so we've either been unwilling to do it or have had attempts blocked. Rigs in Texas sit silent, and states like Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado are sitting on vast reserves of oil. If we want the price of gas to go down, we need to become energy independent.

Oh, and don't forget to keep Democrats in Congress. The price of gas hasn't quite doubled since they took control in 2006.

Louie, I think it's part of it is the belief that we'll all be running on corn by Thursday. Using corn to make fuel sounds good on the surface, but there are far more problems and limitations for it than I'll bother listing here. I'm all for researching alternatives, but some people have to understand that it won't happen tomorrow. Plus, where I live there are rigs sitting silent. Granted, cranking them up again might disturb a pasture rat, but other than that no wildlife would be out of place. We have the ways and means to become independent, we just aren't taking advantage of it.

OK, I admit there are funnier slogans out there - like this one: http://tinyurl.com/4qqmdd (Did they swipe it from a dominatrix?)

James you are exactly right my friend. We have been trying to get ANWR approved since the 80's. We had it through the House and Senate in 1995, but Clinton vetoed it of course! Now with gas at or near 4.00, the DEMS still are not willing to even try it at limited levels! Over 75% of Alaskans think it is a good idea! The tax implications are good and the job creation outlook is good! So what is the problem? This area is thick with ice, thus the word arctic. What is there besides oil and more oil?

Fit, you should know by now I'm not impressed with you links. I'm from Texas and if I want to see bullsh*t I can drive down the road and see the real thing. It's not only more entertaining than what you offer but more accurate.
