Wow! In the last couple of weeks, "templar" and "frisbeedog" have given over 70 dog foods on this site a one star/terrible rating!! I visited their profiles and clicked on "ratings" and was blown away! Canidae formulas all received 5 stars. I'm glad they found a brand that works for them.

I don't put stock in anything any pet food company says and even less in pet food companies owned by Proctor & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, Mars, Nestle ,Diamond, and the like. The research I have done over the years has been independant and comes from nutritionists who are not connected with any company, it comes from research & studies by people who could care less who makes a food but rather more on the health & nutritional benefit to dogs & cats. I also don't rely totally on the internet to find what I am researching, I read books, articles, talk to actual nutritionists, vets who do have actual studies foods that are species specific and don't just promote the likes of Science Diet, Pedigree, Purina and such beacause they are given free samples.
The information is out there if any one wants to dig to find it and to really do research & study.

Info can be given but it can't be forced on anyone. The choice of what to do with information is soley up to the person (people) receiving it.

Let me put it this way - I refuse to feed anything that comes from a Diamond plant whether it's owned by the company or not. I just don't trust them.
Well because of Canidae being made at Diamond Plants they already did change their Lamb and Rice formula. People were using Lamb and Rice because it was gluten free, which now it is not. They did so to adapt to Diamond's way of processing. Canidae was in a league of it's own and now it is just becoming like every other box company, I'm sure soon to be sold in Pet Stores. Diamond's food is horrible, their other products like Solid Gold are not bad but I don't like the idea they are made by the same low quality, low standards as their other food. Dog lovers on other forums have already emailed them and of course they send back a nice little "we are doing what is best for you and keeping cost down for our customers while maintaining the same quality" .
LOT of dog food are outsourced to Diamond. Most folks just don't know about it. The best way to protect your pets is to read the ingredients. Something with actual meat as the first ingredient is preferable and I don't mean meal as in chicken meal or beef meal. Grain free is best but whole grains are acceptable like barley, rice and oats. Corn is a HUGE no no. Dogs do not digest corn and corn was why the dogs on the Diamond food got sick and died. Corn at times contain a bacteria which is fatal to dogs and the corn used in dog food is not tested for it.There are others but those immediately come to mind. And yes, while several of those are outsourced to Diamond, they still use good ingredients and are not processed in the same plants as the "crappy" Diamond products
Im not staying that all the foods they make are bad.. what im saying is that this company has been involved in many cases of tainted dog food including deaths. They are currently paying out 3.1 Million because of this. This was not a post to bash diamond pet foods in any way, but to warn people that the new Candie is causing a lot of dogs to get very ill... Candie is not taking any responsibility for it at this point, so i personally see no reason for anyone to use this food anymore.
