Card Games

Playing games with your kids can be a wonderful, communicative experience, and in the case of many card games, teaches logic and reasoning skills without making it seem like hard work.

My parents taught me rummy, hearts, bid whist, and pinocle, as well as the usual assortment of kids games. My father, as he lay dying, taught me poker and blackjack. I've passed the games on to my kids, and in some small way feel like I'm passing a torch.

Good call...in as much as he couldn't see the playing surface until he was around ten...Also, another biggie was that if he wanted to the all-girl review, he couldn't go near the slot machines...ever...

Attaboy. I think its best to wait until he was ten before discussing hardway bets in Craps.

Give him a break, 'git! He was only five. I waited until he was six before we got to the advanced stuff....sheesh...

Let's see.... Always split eights. Don't draw to an inside straight. Double down on 10 or 11 if the dealer shows 2 through 6.

My son could cut a deck with one hand by the time he was five...He learned never to split picture cards and that there are some nights when you just can't win. What else does a kid need to know?
