This infant formula can be a little hard to find, but it turns out that Earth's Best has been making organic infant formula longer than any other manufacturer. We switched our baby to this from the Similac Organic, which became available in late 2006.
One thing that we noticed right away upon switching was that the Earth's Best tastes about half as sweet as the Similac, which makes sense because it is sweetened with organic lactose derived from cow's milk instead of sucrose from sugarcane.
Pediatricians recommend not feeding infants something as powerfully sweet as sucrose, because it can contribute to childhood obesity, as well as interfere with them eating other nutritious foods, and can cause tooth decay.
The 27 countries of the European Union, where rising childhood obesity is a concern, have banned sucrose in infant formula starting in 2009. The EU seems to care a bit more about consumer protection than the FDA. Based on that and the advice of our pediatrician we were happy to begin using the Earth's Best Organic Infant Formula.
