Just switched from standard (usually scented) clay to this litter three days ago. No objections from my 13 year old cat who has only known the clay and just undergone a move to a new home (having lived in the previous one for the past 11 years) some 15 days ago. He's had a lot to get used to in past two weeks, so I wasn't sure how well this would work out, but I decided switch him "cold turkey" anyway.
Just now scooped the box for the first time and was amazed when I opened the doors to the cabinet (with an entryway cut out on the wall end) in which I hide the litter box, removed the hood of the box, immediately saw a couple big turds laying right on top, and--get this--DIDN'T SMELL A THING!!!
I never have smelled anything so far since making the switch on Monday (this is Thursday)--and wasn't even sure he'd been "going". With clay, I was ALWAYS aware of the smell of the litter itself when scented (yuck), as well as the waste. Previously found cleaning such an objectionable task that I often went the full week without scooping between complete litter changes (with profuse apologies to my poor kitty, promising to try and do better, but rarely ever doing so). So this first experience with WBCL was a real treat!
I'd decided not to flush (as I've been informed that people who work in water treatment recommend not doing so), so I'd come equipped with a plastic bag that I'd assumed I'd have to run down to the dumpster immediately so as not to smell up the place. Scooped the turds into the bag, still smelling nothing, then the three large urine clumps, finally sticking my nose almost entirely into the bag, and STILL couldn't smell anything! I don't get it, but I sure am happy about it. Don't know how long this stuff has been on the market, but I sure do wish I'd discovered it sooner, and am glad I bought this first bag prior to reading some of the negative reviews which might have kept me from trying it form myself.
So my advice to anyone who is considering giving this litter a try... DO SO, at least once, then make your decision based upon your own experience, and I hope it's as good as mine.
Also would be interested in any good ideas with dealing with the scooped out waste (other than flushing).
