They make 3% of the transaction value. However, the main earnings Citizens Bank make through the use of debit card use are when Citizens Bank collects $37.00 for every overdrawn transaction on the account. You may already know about it. When you check your account balance at any Citizens ATM machines, the balance you read does not reflect the actual balance in the account. There may be outstanding charges that the bank does not update on a timely basis perhaps due to lack of personnel, or just due to shoddy business practices. If you, the customer having verified the balance in the account, relying on the information provided by Citizens Bank, use Citizens' debit card for purchases, you may find that you have overdrawn your account by cents, or a few dollars. The bank automatically charges you $37.00 for every incident of overdrawn funds. So, you may have overdrawn $1.25 Citizens bank makes the 3% of the transaction value plus the $37.00. The same day you purchase another $5.00 based on the balance provided by Citizens ATM machine, you are charged another $37.00 dollars. This is Citizens Bank preferred money making scheme.
