Born in 1975, Alex Rodriguez was selected by the Seattle Mariners with the first overall pick of the 1993 free agent draft. Signed in 2000 as a free agent shortstop by the Texas Rangers, Rodriguez was the second shortstop in MLB history to hit 40 homeruns and the third player to hit 40 homeruns and steal 40 bases in the same season (both in 1998).
