The age of political turmoil that started with the American and French Revolutions ended with the Cold War; Communism is basically dead outside a few university departments. There are a few remaining Totalitarians relics (Burma, North Korea) and tin-pot dictators (Zimbabwe) but most states in the world today are bureaucratic Oligarchies (rule by the rich) with a varying amount of Democracy. The lack of ideological alternatives to Democracy/Oligarchy makes violent revolutions less likely, as does the global decline of birthrates; old people do not make revolutions.
