ING 1

I recently applied for a HELOC to pay off my current HELOC to save paying interest. Who wouldn't? ING listed no fees, everything they cover so it was a great deal. But then they decline me for the amount needed and give me a "counteroffer" of an amount much lower. This does two things: It doesn't show up as a decline, skewing their numbers (as my FICO is 795) and it shows up as an approval. So I call to get a copy of the "appraisal" they used and they tell me they can't provide it because they didn't do a real "appraisal", they only did an internet search. So how unprofessional can a company get? I sent a scathing email to have a manager call me, and will soon make a decision to move my checking, savings (all 7 of them) and my sharebuilder accounts.

Oh yeah, I tried to move money from my savings into my sharebuilder account and accidentally entered my "customer" number instead of my account number. Everything else was right. What do they do? They return the debit as insufficient, not because it was but because the account didn't exist. So instead of having a person actually review the discrepancy and/or contact me they just return it and I miss the cutoff for setting up a Roth IRA for tax year 2007.

Ok...an update...ING called me after a 3 week wait. The "manager" - Rudy reviewed the file and was unable to approve the HELOC, as he agreed with the "internet appraisal" they completed. The funny thing is that 5 of the 7 properties they compared my property with are not on the water, as mine is. I have since moved quite a bit of my monies to Wachovia in a 7 month CD, as they have a higher rate - 4% to ING's - 3.3%. I have been with ING since 2000, but that relationship will soon be over.
