A friend of mine is a musician, and it looks like a pretty tough job. From what I've seen, it involves long hours in the evening and on weekends, and the pay isn't great. In addition, she constantly has to look for new gigs because her jobs generally run for a set period of time and then end. I know that many musicians teach on the side, too, which could be either good or bad, I guess. Taking everything into consideration, I'd rather have a day job and play music as a hobby or a side career. Being a musician full-time sounds like too much of a hassle.
