Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865) 5

Lincoln had no choice but to go to war all you Condederate lovers. I'm pretty sure the south REBELLED then ATTACKED Fort Sumter. So we therefore had to retaliate and fight back. I do respect the southern heritage and culture however. But Lincoln is an inspiration to me. A great world leader.

No, the South didn't rebel - they simply walked away from a Union in which they were being economically enslaved to the northern states. The right to leave the Union was specifically spelled out during the ratification process, and Mr. Lincoln disregarded that.

No longer part of the Union, the Confederate States asked the Union to withdraw their troops from CSA territory. When the Union refused, they attacked Ft. Sumter, which they regarded as an illegal infringement upon their territory - much as we'd be expected to attack an Afghan military base on US soil today.

Lincoln disregarded the Constitution he was purportedly defending, ignored the Supreme Court when they protested his illegal actions, but won the war - so his side got to write the history books. Look further into the actual issues of the time, and what he actually did, and you may reconsider where you get your inspiration from.
