I admit that as an American, I do have preconceptions about Spanish. I have constantly seen it as the language of illegal immigrants and even legal ones. Despite that, I must admit that Spanish is very useful in the United States, especially in the states bordering Mexico. It is also useful in neighboring South America except for Brazil.
For those who want to take advantage of Spanish's usefulness, I encourage you. This Romance language is one of the easiest to learn. Spanish does have a good amount of romance and passion attached to it, especially if you visit Spanish-speaking nightclubs.
I personally have never learned it formally in school and do not have a desire to do so. I may learn it on my own in the future though.
