Stevie Ray Vaughan 4

This one is a tough call for me.  I was a huge fan and he was hands down the top player of his era (admirttedly there wasn't a lot of steller competition during his era).  But I'm not sure that he's Hall of Fame stuff.  He was a master craftsman, integrity till the end, played with great heart and a brilliant synthsist of styles, but not really a pioneer, or innovator per se. And because he was such a singular talent, I don't know that he'd rate as influential.  Very tough call but I'd have to say worthy on a year with a weak ballot at best.

Given the kind of hacks that are already in the R&R HOF, I don't see what prevents his election. In my opinion, the concept of the hall is a bit of a joke anyway.

I think he should get in. And I think he would be a shoe-in if his career wasnt cut short.

A bit of joke? This is serious business, right up there with the Academy Awards and winning American Idol! Maybe it's not quite as serious as the purity of the baseball record book or the economic impact of picking the right Project Runway contestant. People's lives may not be at stake if the wrong choice is made, but it is worthy bar room debate fodder.
