I was not referring to opening an account. I'm talking about a well established customer who is bringing in NEW money. This is not a third-party check from some fly-by-night person or firm. I'm referring to a cashier's check from Bank of America! Why go to the trouble to get a cashier's check if Fidelity will not honor it on demand? Just about any bank in this country would do so. This is a systems issue. Cashiers checks are cash like instruments that the government makes you track for AML purposes. Until recently they haven't had the ability to track so they didn't accept them unless they were over 10K. They are fixing this now. Changes coming soon.

This is hardly damning. If you're an investor, and you can't wait five days to set up an account, then you're not much of an investor.
