Boycotts of Olympics for political purposes (1956,1976,1980)

reviewed by Drummond

Olympic boycotts occur when nations eligible to participate in the Olympic Games refuse to do so in order to illustrate a political point such as a protest of the policies of the host country. In many Olympics, at least a handful of eligible countries have boycotted the event. (Wikipedia)

The Olympics should be an international politics free zone. The boycotts have punished nobody but athletes and fans.
