George W. Bush (2001-2008) 2

My take is that history will judge him mediocre if he is lucky, and downright bad if he is not.  Nothing much happened domestically on his watch.  We did not develop alternate energy sources to free ourselves from dependence on foreign oil.  The health care crises and the illegal immigration problems continued to fester.  The economy was not as bad as the demos would like to paint it, and not that good either.  His record on foreign policy will be dragged down by his poorly thought out strategy in Iraq.  Perhaps in hindsight the war will be judged as a necessary step to bringing stability to the Mideast, but the execution was bungled.  The rest of his handling of foreign affairs might look somewhat better.  China did join us in the end in reining in North Korea.

All in all, a president solidly in the bottom quarter.  Because of the critical importance of peace in the Mideast, I hope everything breaks for Bush and he doesn't sink any lower, but if Iraq goes south, he could rank right at the bottom.
