Led Zeppelin

Ah, the kings of overrated classic-rock groups themselves, the mighty Zep! They started out with some blues-rock stuff that they ripped off from the blues and r&b artitsts who actually wrote the songs years before, and gave themselves credit for the lyrics. Today, this would be called "sampling." Call it what you will...it's still cheap. Then they started getting really big-headed and taking themselves WAY too seriously. I mean really...playing your guitar with a BOW? Get real! Their concert footage is funny at times. ( They're great, important, and deep...and dammit, they KNOW IT!!) They're biggest sin to me however, is how criminally BORING they were a lot of the time! The song Kashmir...are there really people who can listen to this whole song straight through without being baked? This was hardly exclusive to Zep though, the early to mid 70s were THE time for boring, pretentious, self-important rock music. (Prog- rock anyone?) It just blows my mind that this dull group is still loved today. "Time to get the Led out!!!" (Okay...how about permanently?) It took punk and new wave to come along, wake everyone up out of their stuper, and make them realize how dull this group and groups like it were. I've said for years the best song Zep ever did was "Rock n Roll," because it was a tribute to the 50s, and a song where the group actually played some RnR.
