Beginning in 1990 Monica Seles quickly became a dominating force in womens tennis. Along with Steffi Graf, Monica Seles began to develop a rivalry that matched Evert/Navratilova. Monica Seles won 8 major titles before the tragic attack that almost ended her career. Following the stabbing in 1993 Monica Seles has only managed to win 1 major title (1996 Australian Open).
