Sarah Palin - Governor of Alaska
2
*Update* We are now going on two weeks since anyone has been allowed to ask Governor Palin an unscripted question. Does anyone find this troubling? I know she's studying and all....but this is a little creepy. In lieu of voting for a VP, we should at least be allowed to ask her questions.*
She's a young woman to counter John McCain's old whiteness, she has a clean and acceptably conservative record, and she has 90% approval rates in her home state of Alaska - which is extremely impressive. These would seem to be the primary reasons behind her selection.
The things that I would be concerned about are: any McCain VP choice must be considered on a "ready to be President now" basis. There may have been other candidates who better fit this bill. Also, more than any other state, Alaska is in the grip of the oil companies. It's hard to imagine Palin being a champion for energy reform. And finally, as CS pointed out, the pick seems to be reactive in nature, which can either be considered as quick, adaptive thinking, or letting the Dems dictate the conversation.
