If so, I assume your objection is to research on embryonic stem cells, which may require the destruction of an embryo, rather than adult stem cells, which do not, and which can come from many sources, including discarded umbilical cord blood or bone marrow. Do you object to embryonic stem cell research that could be conducted on excess embryos created for in vitro fertilization? Most couples do not want to preserve the excess embryos after the successful implantation of one embryo and a successful subsequent pregnancy. They consent to have them discarded. Is such destruction sinful? If so, what would you have the couples and hospitals do with them? Doesn't it make more sense to instead use them for research that may benefit other humans with medical disabilities, such as paralysis victims?
