Solid Gold 3

While it's still too early to tell, I have some belief in this product.  I tried Solid Gold (puppy) when my 9 month old was about 7 months old.  His stool was loose and he wouldn't eat it.  He is now neutered and older, and I believe that also has a lot to do with the success we are now having.  Of course in addition to the food change.  He is eating the lamb kibble now.

When I transitioned him from Kirkland food, I did not have the usual several days of loose stool.  I had a few but it seemed less than any other food. He seemed to only want to eat the cheapest of all the brands we had tried before, now that I look back, hence the Kirkland.  We also adopted a Senior boxer recently, so he is on it too.

I feel like such a bad momma now that these areas are improving.  I may have to switch again, but I'm hopeful right now.  It's hard to keep switching foods because it's such a long process and I just want the best for them.  Here are a few positives that I noticed in both of them.

The volume, not frequency, of their stools has decreased.  It smells less and is pretty firm, firm enough for me to pick up without it breaking all apart.  I use biodegradable bags, not a pooper scooper.  So, I get pretty close to the stuff when picking it up.

The discharge from their eyes has decreased significantly.  Although really early to tell, I feel like my older guy's paw redness and irritation seems to be decreasing.  That was the major reason I forked out the money for this food.

With two guys (80 lbs and 55 lbs), it can be expensive.  I tried to pick a food on the same level as the other high quality foods, but on the lower end of the price range. I also wanted to be able to find it easily.  So, this is what I chose for the time being.

Hi to the person who keeps changing the food and is not yet sure about Solid Gold.. I for many years gave my dog solid gold and he did very well on it. you have to find the right mix but Solid Gold may not be the right food for you dogs. But by far is better than the other (sorry) garbage you are giving your dogs. Did you try mixing a little bit of the solid gold into the commercial food? Oh and here is another thought "of course they love the junk food" it is like giving your kids potato chips for breakfast and dinner. Although I had good results with Solid Gold I no longer feed my dog dry dog food I cook his food. Well anyway is 12 and healthy. So try this try mixing a tablespoon of the better food to their junk food and keep adding more of the better food and pulling back the junk food. If the stool goes too runny then pull back and start over. But there are many wonderful natural organic foods out there but you have to do your homework. It is a lot of work but worth it because you won't have to take your dogs to the vet so much. If that doesn't work then solid gold isn't for your dog then please please try the other organic foods there are so many I like mixing a little bit of Newman's own to my dogs cooked food. Oh and after you ween them to the better food then try adding cooked (unsalted not seasoned!!!) boiled chicken breast to the dry food maybe even liver. It is best to feed your dogs 2x a day rather just 1 full meal (split the amount of food of course). But don't give up on the better food for you dogs, think of it this way would you feed your children cookies for breakfast French fries for dinner? good luck and much luv to your dogs :)...
