Purchase a Hybrid Car 1

This whole "environmentlaist/ climate change" BS is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind. Hybrids run on gasoline up to anywhere between 25-45 MPH. The cost of hybrids means that it would take an average of about 11 years for petrol savings to make up for the difference in sticker price. Who keeps a car 11 years? And finally, if everyone bought a hybrid tomorrow, what happens to all those batteries at 100,000 miles? What a crock!

Nobody is expecting that everyone will by a hybrid car tomorrow. What's being suggested is a seldom used practice called "progress". It doesn't always happen but that shouldn't prevent people from trying.

I pointed out why Hybrids are not "progress".

I don't have a hybrid. But I *think* the idea is that there are other costs associated with using so much fossil fuels besides just sticker price. Stuff like dependence on unsavory political regimes and climate change. Hybrids use less gas than non-hybrids. (i'm not an environmentalist, though I do play one on TV)

You play it well.....EMMY?

You're kinda ignoring the fact that saving money isn't really the point. Regardless, a key problem I see with the whole hybrid phenomenon is that it's merely a stalling tactic by Big Oil until they figure out how to monetize other things. Additionally, the environmental costs associated with manufacturing and transporting shiny new hybrid cars to replace anything short of a giant Hummer or Expedition sort of make it a wash. People love buying crap though...and they like to feel like they're making a difference even if they're not, so these are effectively marketed, regardless of impact.

Your notion of progress is predicated solely on an ROI assessment and fails to realize that there is a LOT more at stake and also naively suggested that there is an expectation that the transition to electric cars might take place over night. I'm sure when the first automobile was invented there were a lot of people who said they would never catch on because there wasn't a network of gas stations and interstate highways accross the sountry to support the driving of them. 25 years ago lots of people said that no one would need a computer in their home too.

Lena....I think you said it better than I.

Victor83 commented 412 days ago.
Frank...I never said there was such an expectation. If you buy into the "climate change" BS, look in the mirror before you call someone else naive. Thanks.

ps. i totally buy into climate change :) I just am annoyed by half-assed attempts to do anything about it.

"if everyone bought a hybrid tomorrow, what happens to all those batteries at 100,000 miles?"

Frank...since you DO buy into the climate change crapola...perhaps you would care to answer the question. BTW...you get an A+ for missing the point.
