Capitalism

reviewed by Victor83

An economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market.

Capitalism 5

The only system that has worked throughout the ages. Corruption will always exist. As we now see (painfully), the regulations of big brother government only serve to turn potential into disaster.

Throughout the ages? The ages? http://tinyurl.com/daskapitalismo

Victor, I pretty much agree with you. Does anybody know what Wall Street corruption everybody is talking about that led to the melt down? There's a difference between corruption and bad investments. The current mess seems to be caused by bad investments as opposed to anything illegal.

Magellan...well said....but this is primarily due to govt interference...beginning in 1977. Clinton and Lindsey Grham then overturned Glass-Stegall in 1999. That was a law signed by Roosevelt in 1933 (so you don't hink I am partisan). That is the major part of this mess.

fit, what other system has worked throughout the ages? Barter systems? Communism? What alternative are you proposing?

fitman commented 253 days ago.
I'm still trying to figure out what 'the ages' means to wingers.

Capitalism is a rather recent phenomenon, no?

Trade and elements of capitalism existed from the time of Crete, to the Greeks, to even the Romans. Stick to the topic fit.

fit, I never open your url's but you cannot possibly think that capitalism is a recent phenomenon, could you? "The ages" means some continuum of recorded history. Victor frames it pretty well, capitalism is nearly as old as man's recorded history. Come on, get a mitt and get in the freakin' game.

Elements; schmelements!

I'm sure there were 'elements of capitalism' in prehistoric societies. However, if I'm not mistaken, capitalism is generally understood to be the system that grew out of and replaced feudalism... and that wasn't so long ago. Hell, there are 'elements of capitalism' in Stalinist states and 'elements of communism' in the Church of Rome. Your arguments are meaningless gibberish.

BTW, obstinate ignorance is obvious even when it's not confessed.

Victor83 commented 252 days ago.
Fit, I am glad that you finally confessed that. Arguing semantics...is that the best you've got fit? Why don't you stop acting like an ass and answer the question EO asked you?
Answer: because that would display your ignorance.
