Capella University 2

I don't think that anyone is saying that online schools are easy. Matter of fact, I think they can be more challenging than being in the classroom. As far as I know, Capella is not yet respected out there and you will have a hard time finding the respect that you want because of the perception about the school, whether it's true or not. Also, I don't know if it matters where you get your BA from but it does matter to most employers where you get your Masters from. How can you learn to apply a skill without the human element attached. For example, counseling, teaching or even business. You need mentors and they need to shape your professional behavior and skills. I think it's better to get your Masters in the classroom because it most mimics where you will be working and helps you to interact with your professional peers. My opinion. Besides powerpoint slides are fine to learn but what about real world application and gaining experience through participation in different settings. This is just one of the many missing elements. Personally, I just don't feel comfortable with a complete online learning experience yet.

Have you had online courses with Capella? It sounds like you have. Unless you have taken courses with them, I don't know how anyone can truly respond to the program they offer. I am simply curious to know if you have attended the university and how was your experience with the education. I'm not interested in the customer service, etc because that is generally handled by other people once in the specific program. I am more interested in your "hands on" (so to speak) experience with your chosen educational path with Capella. I have seen many comments up here from people who have never attended or were going to attend but still have not, or have attempted to attend and perhaps decided to drop out; I can continue. It's freedom of speech up here which is great. But, unless one has truly had the "hands on" education with the university, I do not know how that person can truly respond to the value of the education. I also want to know if people have attended and received their degrees, especially PhD degrees, if those degrees have been valued and not necessarily a paper education, if this makes any sense. I have been told by other professors that "I have heard of Capella University but I don't think that it has the reputation for something like teaching at the secondary level." This is a quote from the professor. Is it true? because if it is, then I need to find another place. Another professor I asked about whether the PhD would help with consulting work. Response was "Consulting depends mostly on having practical knowlege that companies can use right away or train employees with, it seems to me." So, I am faced with whether or not to pursue this PhD Information Technology degree or not. Need advice. Thanks.
