The Honest Kitchen

reviewed by SetterKrazy

Organic food, only human grade ingredients. Several different types available, depending on age/activity level of dog, and whether the owner wants to add other ingredients. Cat variety also available. Dehydrated - just add water and wait ten minutes. 10lb bag makes 40lbs of food.

The Honest Kitchen 5

Update 2-26-09. I've now been giving Preference to my two English Setters for over four months with very favorable results. I switched from dry after having quite a few problems with some high end foods. (Timberwolf Organics). Both dogs have lost weight and are now fit, trim, and full of energy. One box lasted me 4 months, as it only comprises 1/4 of their diet. The other 3/4's is Sojo's, fresh meat, and ground veggies. I use Honest Kitchen, and Sojo's to help maintain vitamin levels in their diet.
The weight loss can be attributed to increased energy, and decreased processed fats.

Yes, it would be expensive if used as a standalone food source.

Which Sojo's do you add- the original or grain-free (veggies)? I thought about adding it for variety.

I've been using the original Sojos European blend for the most part and have recently started adding a small amount of the grain free veggies for variety. I've only recently started doing this, and if I remember the grain free was pretty pricey, so I use the least of that. I do go over the top and keep ground up veggies on hand whenever possible, so I need less of the Sojo's grain free. I use water removed from boil for the both Sojo's products, as the product didn't soften to my liking. I may be losing some nutrients, so you may want to try various water temperatures vs time to get it the way you want. Let me know how it works out. Note: go with the smaller package if you are just starting out, just in case you don't like it. My dogs gobble it right up.

I received a couple of samples and my dogs really liked both but I think they preferred the grain-free w/veggies. I will most likely use it as variety to the HK diet. I don't have a lot of time to cut up a bunch of veggies so I only do that occasionally. I think it works for a great supplement though from what I've seem thus far. Smells really good too! I used warm-hot water to soak and then put it in the fridge.
