Similac Alimentum 5

hello~ just had some questions about alimentum...my 3 month old son has been on alimentum for about a month now...it has done wonders for him. he still has times throughout the day where he is grouchy, but overall it has done wonders for him. we have to rectally stimulate him everyday to get him to poop...is this normal? he gets very uncomfortable so we know that he needs to poop...his poop is not hard, and he has no problem going...but he need that extra help....just wondering if it could be an intestinal problem...? fyi--he has had "digestive" issues since birth...first he threw up alllll the time, he had an upper GI done when he was about 2 weeks old....he was then put on soy formula...he was also put on zantac for reflux...his dr. put him on alimentum at 2 months....and like i said it has worked wonders on him, but im kind of concerned that he cant poop on his own even though he isnt constipated????

Try 1 tsp of dark Karo syrup in his bottle 2x a day. My daughter (6 weeks) is/was having most of the same issues ... since her pediatrician suggested the syrup it has helped with her constipation ..... she still has gas and tummy issues and I am hoping the alimentum will help her.

When your son poops look at the color of the stool. All baby food is fortified w. iron - which can become too much for them to handle. Sometimes as you change their pamper the "iron smell" will work it's way to your nose. I counter this problem by giving my son alot of fruits. That keeps him moving as he should.
