Ok, true story.
A few years back I was in a drug store, standing near a very young and very nervous young woman who finally asked an elderly stock clerk for "Tampax." He looked at her and said enquiringly, "Do you want the ones you push in with your thumb, or the ones you have to drive in with a hammer."
He thought she said "thumbtacks."
