My favourite bar, a cantina called Carlos and Murphy's, has a great atmosphere. People come, have a drink, talk, laugh, watch sports on one dinky little screen. The bartender is cordial and used to pull a lighter out of his shirt pocket to light you up, back in the days when people smoked in bars. The waitresses are real girls, friendly, not over solicitous, and they greet the regulars by name. There's a brew pub across the street that actually brews a house beer for their taps. Sure they are competitors, but I'm guessing the brew pub likes the idea of selling beer to the customers across the street. It's that kind of area. Every now and then someone gets too loud, rowdy, steps out of line with the staff, or in some way detracts from the social ambiance. Management politely asks that they tone it down or continue their evening elsewhere where that sort of partying is the norm. Carlos and Murphy's has been packing them in for 23 years.
