you've convinced me but changing oil every 1000 seems expensive

It is expensive but my dad would sometimes change his oil every two weeks and his trucks were always in great shape,and when and if he traded one in everyone in our small town wanted it.With the synthetic oils today you don't have to be such a change aholic.
