Stoeger Model 2000 5

I've had the black synthetic '2000' for 2 1/2 years. I now have a barrel for pheasant & doves & rabbits; a barrel with a great turkey choke, and the cantilevered rifled barrel for deer, mounted with a Tasco ProPoint Red dot. My freezer is full of pheasant, chukars, doves and venison (and a few rabbits). I love the gun for upland game. Its light and reliable in any weather. I just limited out this deer season - dropping a 250lb 8 pointer with one Remington Platinum Tip at 75 yards from a single tree stand. The buck was way to my right on the tree line, so I had to shoot him leftie - and I'm a rightie. One shot perfectly placed. I could not have made the same shot with my Browning Mag. I am a huge Stoeger 2000 fan. Perhaps the made in Turkey issue has leveled out. I strongly recommend the gun - hard to beat for the dollar. Use quality ammo, keep it cleaned - except after you zero in for deer season. I can't wait to take it out again.

Where can I purchase a slug barrel for my M2000 ?

I ordered mine through a local dealer a couple years ago. After the 2008 season, my hunting buddy wanted to get a Stoeger 2000 after seeing what a clean job it made of the two deer I brought down. We found one, with assorted chokes, at a GUN SHOW, bought it and a new RedDot. The cantilevered, rifled barrel, however, was picked up at a local dealer who had one on a 2000 that was for sale. We talked him into selling that barrel. We learned that the rifled barrels have been discontinued. There are some options, however. You can post a wanted noticed on appropriate sites. You can purchase a rifled choke for the 2000 - used with the Winchester Platinum Tip Sabot it will amaze you with its accuracy out to 100 yds. You can prowl the gun shows. You can get word out to your local dealers. You get the idea. Start now. The season approaches. I smell deer... Safe and productive hunting!

ToryII - I just did a quick check: reach out to Hastings and order one of their Paradox Sabot Discarding Choke tubes. It will give you 5 inches of rifling. You will score, as I have said, and it will fill the gap until you can get a fully rifled barrel for that 2000. Good luck!

$225.00/barrel

I like the cost of your other idea - the rifled choke. Thanks

Just remember that you cannot tap and mount any type of scope or sight on the receiver of your 2000. The cantilevered, fully-rifled barrel is cast to accept any weaver-type sighting device, from a telescopic to (my personal favorite) a RedDot ProPoint. Do not be penny-wise and pound foolish - you do have a vastly improved arsenal at you command - and a far more accurate gun - with the now very hard to find fully rifled barrel. Think this one through. If you want to use a sighting device, go for the barrel and think of how may years of deer hunting lie ahead of you. If you just want to save money and diminish your odds of tagging out early and big, go rifled choke. If you want to just save money, stick with what you have and buy hollow point slugs. I'm sure you will harvest deer using any of the three methods. But, unless they are shooting on a preserve, I think most serious hunters will always want to give themselves every advantage. Personally, I'd borrow the money and offer to repay in venison over a couple of seasons...

Well you gave some good advice. I'm also thinking of the much higher cost of using sabots with the rifled barrel. Thanks.

Will a Benelli barrel fit in the Stoeger ?

Remember: one shot, one kill. The speed and accuracy of the Winchester Platinum Tip is simply outstanding at nearly 2.5x the speed of sound (1700fps).
At 100 yards, no drop in trajectory. The wound is devastating and clean. I used 2 PTs last season: 2 deer harvested. That leaves me 3 shells for this season...one to reassure me that the intervening year has not jostled my Red Dot, and 2 for the 2 healthy does I anticipate harvesting this November. If you're going to do a job, you want to have the best tools at hand. I am not encouraging you to waste money, which is damn hard to come by these days for most of us. I am, however, encouraging you to invest wisely, and to make that investment looking years down the road. Thousands of great deer are harvested annually with a simple slug gun: and you can shoot a rifled slug out of an unrifled barrel, getting a bit more accuracy. But why not make every effort to give yourself every advantage - after all, just getting out in the woods and anticipating the 'moment of truth' is exciting and fulfilling, even when we don't even see a deer for the 12 or so hours we are siting in the stand...but when that moment comes, I know I want absolutely EVERY advantage as I ever so gently caress that trigger. Gee, you'd think I work for Stoeger. I don't. But I do love deer hunting, and my Stoeger is my first choice and my back-up in the field is my Browning Auto5. Whatever you decide, I know you'll hunt fair chase and do well. Be safe. Let me know what you are up to.

Stoeger barrels for Stoeger guns. Even though the Stoeger is manufactured in Turkey under the Benelli/Beretta license, you will not mix and match. If you want a Benelli barrel, be sure it is attached to a Benelli gun...
