Innova EVO Dog Food 3

My boston was on nutro natural blend high energy dry food and seemed to be doing well. I purchased a new bag of food and immediately she developed severe case of diarrhea. I returned the bag and purchased innova adult small bites. I did not have any of the old food left; therefore, I was not able to mix the foods together. She loves the innova but still has the diarrhea. What should I do?

First - I would take the dog to the vet first thing on Monday. The diarrhea may not be releated to the dog food at all. Then - if you switch - ALWAYS switch slowly - over 2 weeks at least. What you can do now: - 24 hours no food - if this is NOT a puppy! Make sure, the dog is drinking water - they dry out fast and that is dangerous. - NO table scraps AT ALL TIMES - start with a diet after 24 hours - like yoghurt or cottage cheese (if the dog does NOT have a dairy allergy) - then maybe cooked chicken and rice, chicken broth.... NO SPICES of course - when the diarrhea is gone, slowly introduce the food - try pumpkin (the CANNED pumpkin) - or try activated charcoal (that really should help within 24 hours! just googled this real quick - there should be more information on the web: http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/activated-charcoal-toxiban-liqui-char-uaa-gel/page1.aspx) Some Possible Causes of Diarrhea sudden changes in diet (e.g. from one commercial dog food to another) fatty or salty foods chocolate, onions, grapes, raisins, certain nuts Drinking Milk (Lactose Intolerance) stress stale water, chlorined water lawn insecticides or pesticides bad, mouldy, or rotten food Eating Garbage Infection (viral or bacterial) Worms Parasites such as giardia & coccidia Bowel Disease Poisoning Cancer Blockage (foreign object) Pancreatitis Kidney disease Liver disease Intussusception (telescoping of the bowel on itself) Hormone Imbalance More information: http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/diarrhea.html Most importantly - check with the vet. Good luck! Hope, your dog gets better soon!
