Canidae All Life Stages 5

First of all, WE appreciate all the positive feedback we are getting with our new formulas. It truly has been an exciting change!
For all those who have questions and not had the time to contact US directly;
Canidae made the change in the formulation in an effort to provide the most nutritious, all natural, palatable products for your pet. We continuously monitor advances in pet nutrition and only implement changes in our formulas that will increase the quality of your pets food.
The new formulation has increased levels of meat protein, lowered carbohydrates, and an increased overall complex carbohydrate quality. For your pet, this means more meat and more sustained energy. Guaranteed viable microorganisms to help build a stronger immune system and cranberries for better urinary tract health.
All these changes were made for your pet, with you and him in mind.

Yes, we are using Diamond Pet Foods for some of our production and we are very happy with our partnership. Our production partnership with Diamond Pet Foods has already surpassed future AAFCO and FDA standards. By meeting the newer pre-process and post-process monitoring guidelines with state of the art equipment and procedures, our partnership has enabled us to produce a safer, higher quality product with specific procedures in place to assure the health and well being of your pet.
To assure the safety of our products, CANIDAE has strict protocols which require that all formulas are tested in-line during our production runs, and cleared by a second supervisor every 30 minutes. Additionally, there are 141 ingredient tests and 10 finished product tests. We at CANIDAE understand the level of trust that you have come to expect from us and our products and it is our responsibility and commitment to deliver on that trust!
Now with three production facilitates we are also able to cut down on pollution, fuel consumption, carbon emissions, as well as many other positive environmental impacts. In addition to these environmental improvements, these changes also dramatically reduce our freight costs and reduce transit times, enabling even fresher products.
CANIDAE is committed to providing the highest standard of excellence for nutritional benefit, palatability, and customer satisfaction.

Yes, it is TRUE Diamond did have ONE recall. Unfortunately in 2005 Diamond did have a recall. The recall was from Aflatoxin, a toxic mold or fungus commonly found in corn. Aflatoxins are more predominately found in certain drought areas or pockets of the US. The unfortunate recall was from one load of corn supplied by a single source at one facility. This source has been eliminated as an approved supplier in Diamonds facilities.
Since this tragic situation occurred, many manufactures have learned a harsh lesson. All of our suppliers must follow strict protocols set forth by us. No single employee can be responsible for the testing of incoming ingredients. All testing and reporting must be confirmed by a second party. In addition all grains are purchased from a single supplier in low aflatoxin risk areas. Even though CANIDAE does not use corn in any of our products, we are proactive in creating testing procedures to help assure the safety of your pets. Also all CANIDAE formulas are tested during our production runs, and cleared by a supervisor, every 30 minutes to assure the safety of our line. We understand the level of trust you must have with the foods you feed your pets, and its our responsibility and commitment to deliver!

As always we encourage you to call us directly if you have any questions or concerns rather than looking for answers from the internet.
Happy New Year to Everyone and your pets!

This all sounds great if you were not one of the many that posted complaints on Consumeraffairs.com. I have a dog that suffered greatly after the new formula change. The vomiting, diarrhea, itching and hot spots were very real and left my vet shaking her head after all of the tests came back negative. I finally switched her food to another brand (I'd love to say which one, but that's not the point) and ALL of the symptoms stopped. She's back to normal and even more bright eyed and bushy tailed. What they don't tell you in this glowing review of their product is that they made major changes to their old formula, not for the benefit of your pet but for the benefit of their bottom line. And they did this without alerting the public. They say this is not true but it is very true. They didn't even bother to slap a sticker on the bags containing the new formula. The ingredient list was all that changed and who checks the ingredient list of EVERY bag of a brand that you've been buying for a year! Their customer service was insulting every time they responded to my emails. They blame the retailers for not getting the word out on the "changes" and they blame the customers for not "transitioning" properly. I've never dealt with a company that wouldn't accept responsibility for mistakes they made. I'll never buy any of their products again.

Class Action filed against the makers of Canidae Dog Food
Admin | January 27, 2009 5:16 pm
Madison, Wisconsin, January 26, 2009 – A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of dog owners nationwide against the makers of CANIDAE brand dog food, seeking payment of veterinarian bills for dogs who allegedly took ill after consuming the food between last summer and the present. The lawsuit also asks the Court to order the defendants, Canidae Corporation and Diamond Pet Foods, to launch a corrective informational campaign. Affected dogs have experienced rectal bleeding, loose and bloody stools, lethargy, and death, according to consumer complaints posted on internet forums and websites.

“We can’t push back the clock: if hundreds or thousands of dogs have suffered, that can’t be reversed. But the lawsuit at least gives dogs and their owners an avenue for redress,” stated Ilan Chorowsky, one of the plaintiff’s lawyers with the Progressive Law Group, which has offices in Madison, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois. The Animal Law Center, Rosner & Mansfield LLP, and Doyle Lowther LLP also represent the plaintiff.

Further information about the lawsuit is available at www.dogfoodclassaction.com.
