Keybank 1

IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING OPENING AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS BANK PLEASE READ THIS FIRST! Words cannot describe how much I wish I could rate them negative 5 stars. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS BANK UNLESS YOU WISH TO HAVE YOUR MONEY STOLEN FROM YOU!
Here's my story.
I opened an account with them last summer. They hit me with about 3 overdraft fees prior to my recent experience (which i will get to), and I didn't care enough to make a big deal out of it before. However, recently, I've never felt so betrayed, lied to, and abused by a company in my life.
Here's what happened.
I get paid via direct deposit to my checking, every other Thursday at midnight. 2 days before my payday, I stopped at Hannaford to pick up some needed items for my sick boyfriend, which cost me $30. At the time I should have had $380 in my account (I checked the ATM). Now, I used my debit card as CREDIT (using it as credit makes it take LONGER to post to your account, usually 3 days) knowing that by the time the transaction went through, the money would be there to cover it.
Here's what keybank did.
They held a $360 check I wrote for my rent. (I should have realized they had something up their sleeves, because me and my boyfriend turned in our rent checks at the same time, yet his cleared from his bank account 2 days prior.) They put the rent check through the same day that I went to Hannaford. You know what they did?
THEY CHARGED ME AN OVERDRAFT FEE FOR THE PENDING CHARGE. PENDING!
That Thursday I got the letter in the mail explaining the $40 overdraft fee they charged me. And you know what the item was that apparently over-drafted my account? the $30 PENDING charge from Hannaford. It was even marked as pending in the letter. Now mind you, doesn't pending mean it's technically still there? The money's still in your account, they're just waiting for it to clear. Which should take a while, because I used it as credit (any time I've used my debit card as credit before it's taken 3-5 days to officially be taken out of my account.)
But nope, they charged me an overdraft fee for a pending charge.
Then you know what they did? They claimed the transaction cleared that wednesday before I got paid. Now, I KNOW better because I check my account balance every day via the ATM. It said I still had $20 in my account. Plus, a credit transaction with my debit card has NEVER cleared in less than 3 days before (and i've even used my debit card as credit at hannaford before).
THEY CHARGED ME A SECOND OVERDRAFT FEE ONCE THAT PENDING TRANSACTION CLEARED.
THEY HIT ME WITH 2 OVERDRAFT FEES FOR THE SAME TRANSACTION!!!!
How can a bank justifiy that at all? How? They charged me an overdraft for that pending transaction, then another one when that same transaction "cleared." They stole $80 from my account.
I called them about it. The woman I spoke to was so incredibly rude (I was even trying to be nice about it, but towards the end I lost my temper because of how she was treating me). She answered my questions with almost the same exact sentence every time. She was claiming that they put the money on hold from your account with a pending transaction, so it's not really in your account. I confronted her about that, saying that if the transaction hasn't cleared yet, you still have my money, so it's still there, how is my account overdrafted, and she completely avoided answering that. I also brought up what's the point of using a debit card as credit then, if with a credit transaction they still take the money out of the account right away to put it on "hold."  She avoided answering that question. She actually ended up HANGING UP ON ME towards the end of the conversation.
Not only do they steal your hard earned money, but their representitives are mindless drones, who rude and avoidant.
I highly recommend using a different bank. They can't be trusted to hold your money, which is what a Bank is supposed to do.
I will be closing my account when I get out of work at 1pm Monday.

**IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND HOW I CAN GET INVOLVED, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!**
