Canidae All Life Stages 5

Hi. I am a breeder in SC and have used Canidae ALS for years. There are some truly ignorant people people writing some things further down on this rating and I just had to set it straight. I'm not trying to be mean when I say that, they probably just don't know any better. It's not their fault. Canidae did change their formula a while back but it was not a change for the worse. People are saying that when it changed, it made their dog sick....Well, whenever you change your pets diet regardless of what food your feeding them it's going to have an effect on the animal. It had an effect on mine as well but after a few weeks they adjusted to it and everything was fine. For the people who changed foods when that happened, that was the main problem! The dog was already going through a change and then you made it even worse by switching to a totally different food. I feed all of my dogs Canidae and feed all of my puppies Canidae also from the time they are 6 weeks old. I have never had a problem. I highly recommend it! Hear is the "OLD" and "NEW" formual.

I certainly understand that there are fans of Canidae out there and that there are dogs that adjusted and dogs that weren't even affected and I'm happy for you that the new formula works for you. But please don't discount those of us that experienced problems that no amount of waiting could solve. Apparently, a lot of dogs are gluten intolerant. And there are also dogs with allergies. The old formula didn't contain barley (gluten) and the new formula does. There are also several other ingredients added to the new formula. The problem we had stemmed from the fact that we didn't know the formula had changed therefore we worried around for weeks before we realized it was the food we were feeding. Then when we switched our dogs to a different food, that was not a problem, that was the solution! Our dogs instantly improved! So please don't blame us for the new formula not working for our dogs. I was perfectly happy with Canidae before, but will never be able to trust them again. They had to change to NEW bags due to the change in size and the new ingredients. Why did they not change the front of the bags to reflect the NEW FORMULA? No one has been able to answer that question for me. That's where all of the problems started. You can bet that I NOW check my NEW dog food's website weekly to insure that I'm never tricked again. I just never expected a decent company to not be totally upfront and honest with their devoted customers.

My apologies. You are correct. Some dogs are allergic to certain types of food, ingredients...ect., but to say that the company is not trust worthy because your dog is allergic to a change that they made is not fair to them. Regardless of what anyone says, Canidae is still one of the top rated dog foods in the world.

Thank you for the apology. :) I feel they are not trust worthy -- and by the way, I have plenty of company -- because they did not put "NEW FORMULA" on the front of the new bags. Can you offer any suggestions as to why this company chose to do this. For the life of me I cannot come up with one good reason...

I noticed there were differences in the food due to a few different things. The bag looked different -it had changed a bit in appearance and the size of the bag had changed. Plus, the kibble looked different. I immediately looked at the back of the bag and read the ingredients and realized they had changed. What's not to trust?? All the new ingredients were listed on the panel on the back.

All very vague differences. Plus hundreds were fooled. Everyone keeps dancing around my question. If Canidae was so freaking proud of the ALS NEW FORMULAS, why not "shout it to the world" on the FRONT of the new bags? I found photos online of both bags (before and after) and the differences are not obvious. Sorry.

Class Action filed against the makers of Canidae Dog Food
Admin | January 27, 2009 5:16 pm
Madison, Wisconsin, January 26, 2009 – A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of dog owners nationwide against the makers of CANIDAE brand dog food, seeking payment of veterinarian bills for dogs who allegedly took ill after consuming the food between last summer and the present. The lawsuit also asks the Court to order the defendants, Canidae Corporation and Diamond Pet Foods, to launch a corrective informational campaign. Affected dogs have experienced rectal bleeding, loose and bloody stools, lethargy, and death, according to consumer complaints posted on internet forums and websites.

“We can’t push back the clock: if hundreds or thousands of dogs have suffered, that can’t be reversed. But the lawsuit at least gives dogs and their owners an avenue for redress,” stated Ilan Chorowsky, one of the plaintiff’s lawyers with the Progressive Law Group, which has offices in Madison, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois. The Animal Law Center, Rosner & Mansfield LLP, and Doyle Lowther LLP also represent the plaintiff.

Further information about the lawsuit is available at www.dogfoodclassaction.com.

Need I say anymore about this horrible product!
