MetroCast OnLine 1

As with all the other rating, yes Metrocast is the WORST ISP I have ever encountered. Speed quoted (when/if you get any service) is throttled by traffic shaping protocols, shaping data transmission rates and transmission control protocols to the point that 6M equals 1.2M, 10M equals 3M (on a GOOD day).
Initial install was a farce - of the first 45 days of service we had service that was useable for 17 days. 1) 'It's your modem' since we didn't rent/purchase their over-priced item. 2) 'It's the cable in your home.' (which I propmtly dropped a dedicated line DIRECTLY to the modem from outside WHILE THE TECHS WAITED (15 minutes)). 3) 'It's your Direct TV signal interfering.' - yeah right! Separate cables! 4) 'It's the cable running to your home.' They replaced the cable within a WEEK. Service paid for (6M) still 888k-1.2K. This went on for WEEKS, constant drop outs and still no service. After three months a technician finally got us up to a whopping 3M, great but not the 6M we paid for. In all of this outage Metrocast NEVER credited us a dime.
These woes continue today, in the past 7 days (168hrs) we have only had service for 100hrs ( a little over 4 days). I will mention here that my spouse is a virtual employee, no work equals no pay. So the financial portion owed to us is three fold. Service paid for and not delivered; loss of income due to lack of service; and a punitive amount normally given to customers of OTHER services when a service provider fails to produce.
Do yourself a favor, get a broadband modem and cradlepoint. Dump METROCAST.

I agree. I also live in Rochester, NH and find there service and their customer service to quite horrible. The other day metrocast internet was so bad I actually decided I'd tether my pc to my phone( a motorola i425) using the detected iDen modem when I plugged in my phone. I had to poke around online to get this to work reading forums and threads I could find on the topic of tethering. But succeed no problem once I had the right information. The speeds were faster than dial-up at 115kbps+ but all using the boost mobile new unlimited plan. So I got online, check my email , went to a fe site all for no additional cost.

I am not saying they are an alternative to metrocast because obviously 888k is better than what I got.

But when metrocast goes out it is terribly inconvenient. I would rather deal with the slow speeds than the dropped internet any day especially when I am programming.

Metrocast Sucks. I wonder what ever happened to metrocastsucks.com ?
