Innova EVO Dog Food 1

Beware of this food (canned puppy Innova)- I know the ingredients are good, but I just got back from the emergency vet with my 12 week old puppy because I introduced this food to him with his kibble. It is VERY rich and while I may have given him a bit more than I should have, I didn't think it would cause the $400 vet bill and 2 hours of frantic worry that we just endured at the 24 hour emergency vet. I put about a soup spoon's worth in with my puppy's dinner with his regular dry food, and within about 30 minutes he was lethargic, shaky, clingy, and couldn't keep his eyes open as they drooped. He then proceeded to vomit everything that he had eaten the entire day, and then some. After vomiting 4 times, we took him in. I know that you are supposed to introduce food gradually, but he was recovering from a cold and I thought he deserved a little treat. The treat turned out to be x-rays, a peptid injection, and a doctor's note to feed him rice and ground turkey for about 2 weeks. From what I have read, food that doesn't agree with dogs causes loose or runny stools. This was completely frightening. I will never let him touch the stuff again.

ok in responce to terrible i dont think it was the evo food it was you and your lack of knowledge about dogs and the fact that the dog had a cold where in the world did you get your puppy from a puppy mill...i have 4 dogs and none have ever gotton sick or had a cold ..evo dog food is the best if its introduced correctly ...keep feeding your dogs commercial dog food and you will shorten their life span most are made in china ...

Hey sf09...I feel very sorry for your dog. You obviously know nothing about the proper care of a dog and should bring it to a shelter to be adopted. Very sad.

You're kidding me right. Evo is one of the best foods on the market. I know because it saved my German Shepherd. This food is more nutritionally sound than any food you can find at the supermarket or the big discount chains. You cannot blame the dog food for you not knowing how to administer to your puppy. Maybe it wasn't the food as much as your dog was already sick. If puppies become dehydrated you will also see the symptons your pup exhibited. With your puppy being previously sick it is possible the dog would not be able to tolerate any kind of food. My advice to you would be to make sure you have a good vet that will give you information and direction on how your puppy should be fed and cared for according to the breed. Raising a puppy is hard but rewarding. If you don't know, please ask your vet for the sake of your puppy! Good luck to you and your pup.

SF09, it seems likely that the problems your puppy already had contributed to further troubles. I hope your puppy has gotten better from your vet's advice. The puppy is counting on you to get her well.

Blackmamba you have absolutely no knowledge base for any of your comments. I have only seen sick puppies that come from puppy mills and your the same person who said that organic food is BAD for people and dogs, what a dumb shit you are. Your a idiot and you should be banned from owning a pet. You probably feed your dog or cat or whatever you have wendy's everyday. Go inform yourself then come back and apologize for your ignorance. WHAT DO ANIMALS(like dogs) EAT IN THE WILD? MEAT, SO HOW IN THE HELL CAN ANYTHING HAVE TOO MUCH PROTEIN?

SF09 -- I am so sorry about your terrible experience with this food. I also feel that these responses are over the top and cruel. We have all been new dog owners, even though most of us don't remember all the mistakes we made with our first dogs.

The fact that your baby threw up everything it ate all day makes me think that his stomach was upset earlier in the day. Next time, try adding a little bit of canned pumpkin to his kibble for a few days when he's not feeling well. It's soothing to the tummy and to the digestive tract. Although many vets recommend rice, it tends to stop up -- like a cork. The yuk must come out at some point.

If you want to try the canned food again, wait until your baby is completely well and stool is regular. Then try introducing it very slowly with kibble, like you were doing. Since it claims to be a variation on "raw," be careful, and expect some digestive upset. Weaning any dog from store-bought, grain-based food to a better quality meat and veggie diet may be hard on the digestive system, but it's well worth it.

My dogs have been on raw for almost a year, now, and they are thriving. Do your research on brands and spend what it takes to give your sweetie the best possible! Good luck.
