SunTrust 5

Factoid:
People that carry less than $300 in balances at any time,
pay an average of $240 a year in bank fees per year.

Try to keep at least one months salary in your checking at all times.
It is imperative that in this economy you keep at least 3 months income in a savings.

I love Suntrust. They are convenient.
Keep a check register of what you are spending.
Write everything down in a check register or a software program like Quicken Personal or Microsoft Money (my favorite), or even an exell spreadsheet.
These programs also offer budgetting tools, pie charts and graphs that show you where your money is going.
Don't trust any bank - they are all the same.
Never go by available balance.
Go by balance collected or cleared.

I don't think I could have said this any better!

Suntrust just charged me twice for the same overdraft. I am the first one to admit I made an error, but charging me twice for the same overdraft is kind of over the top. Yes it happened!

I currently have another account at Wachovia and have noticed 2 major differences. Overdraft fee at Wachovia $20, Suntrust $36. If you have a checking and saving account linked together at Wachovia they will transfer funds for FREE from one account to another to prevent an overdraft, Suntrust offers the same type of service except they charge $10 for the transfer (starting to sense a pattern here, Suntrust = higher Fees)

I banked with Suntrust for 18 years and my banking habits have not changed. I average 2 overdrafts a year and yes they are my fault, but what has changed is the level of customer service and support that I get from, not only my local branch (walking distance from my house, neighborhood bank feel), but the level of service and support from phone and internet support. They don't even pretend to care anymore. So far Wachovia has treated me decent, and is giving me a lot of incentives to bank with them. If/when that changes I will move on but NOT, again NOT back to Suntrust. Funny, you say don't trust any bank but you bank at someplace with Trust as part of there name.
