Foursquare 5

This is looking like the breakout app of SXSW so far. Foursquare is what Dodgeball would have evolved to, if Google had chosen not to let the app die on the vine.

In addition to the basic Dodgeball functionality of checking in to let your friends know where you are, there is also a social gaming component. You can earn badges - for example, I just earned the Pig badge for checking in at an Austin BBQ place. If you check in more times than anyone else at your local bar, you become "the mayor" of that bar.

It's a neat, fun app. And I love that the Dodgeball founder is giving Google the big FU by coming back with the same damn app, just days after Google pulled the plug on the original Dodgeball.
