Deep Purple

I'm surprised these guys aren't in. Almost every incarnation has had some hits, so they really cannot say "This incarnation is in, all others are out!" That would be discriminating. The lineup of Ian Gillan, Ian Pace, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Richie Blackmore are the most popular, but still Ron Evans had contributed a lot on the 1st 2 releases and David Coverdale contributed a lot from Burn to Come Taste The Band. They also had one of the most successful reunion albums/tours in rock history, not to mention being listed in the Guiness Book Of World Records for being one of the loudest bands. And, most importantly, there are the songs- the chilling "Child In Time," the prog-metal "Knockin' At Your Backdoor," the story-telling "Strange Kind Of Woman," "Burn," "Hush," "Highway Star" and their anthem "Smoke On The Water." Easily identifiable by the G-Bb-C guitar opening, it needs no introduction. Come on, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, don't let Deep Purple remain Perfect Strangers in your hall any more!
"We ended up at the grand hotel, it was empty cold and bare, but with the rolling truck stone thing just outside making our music there"
