The Clash

reviewed by edt4

Formed in 1976, the Clash includes singers and guitarists Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, bassist Paul Simonon and drummer Terry Chimes . The British punk rock band’s most popular songs include "Rock the Casbah" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go?"

The Clash 4

Their early stuff was outstanding. Later stuff was good too, but commercial, the hard edges of the early work "blanded" down to accommodate the tender sensibilities of the American masses. Still, one of the best concerts I ever attended was at the Palladium Theatre in NY, in 1979, I think, or maybe 1980. The Clash, the Undertones (an Irish punk band), and Sam and Dave all appeared on the bill, and it was one of the best times I ever had at a rock concert.

The Clash, The Undertones, Sam and Dave , all in one show? There's proof that you don't have to die to go to Heaven!

Very true. I went to a lot of concerts in those days, mainly to be social with friends who were far more into concert-going than I was, because a lot of what we saw was bad, or I just wasn't interested in the groups we saw (Heart, Judas Priest, Yes, AC/DC, etc.). Then again, every once in a rare while, there was a once-in-a-lifetime type concert, and the Clash/Undertones/Sam and Dave one certainly qualified as that.
