Outback Steakhouse 1

This Saint Patrick's day (2009) I went to the Outback in Grandville, Michigan, for dinner. The first thing that hit me it was dark and dreary, "not the ambiance for an enjoyable meal." I was going to leave but my daughter wanted to try the food; she has never eaten at an Outback.
I sat down with my son and daughter and ordered our drinks, I asked my waitress how much for a beer and she didn't know. This really upset me but ordered the beer any way, a 21oz Bud. I had stopped into this location with my son for lunch about a year ago and had a great burger. I had been raving about the burger and this time brought my daughter as well. We ordered the Bloomin' Onion, I had a beer and the kids ordered pop and water. When the waitress came back to take the order both my son and I asked for medium-rare hamburgers and my daughter ordered the 6oz sirloin "on special." The burgers arrived over-cooked and the buns were dry; the french fries were too salty and I had to send mine back, "I simply could not eat them." It took 15 or more minutes for the new fries to arrive. I asked her if I were being punished for sending the salty ones back, and received a dry reply that "the kitchen was busy," (obviously with orders more important than mine) "but they were only at about 1/8 capacity." Well when the bill came I had spent 39.95 on two burgers, the 6oz special, 2-beers, 1-pop, a water and the Bloomin' Grease Ball, "they call and onion." My son and I ate most of the onion and felt sick later. My daughter enjoyed her steak but did not eat her fries, "too salty as well." The beers turned out to cost $4.25 each; when I got the bill I was shocked at the price and now I know why she played dumb, "Bill Gates wouldn't pay that much for a beer in this joint." If I were observant I would have put 2 & 2 together and realized that Carraba's, Logan's, Texas Roadhouse, Max & Erma's and several other grills that surround this place, were packed. The reason we chose Outback is "the parking lot was virtually empty" and I far as I am concerned, so it shall stay. "Once was enough for me!" I predict this place will soon fold.

I'd be surprised if Bill Gates doesn't pay a lot more than 4.25 for his beer when he goes out to eat. 4.25 for a 22oz beer is a good deal about any restaurant you go.
Sounds like you would have been better off at McDonalds for the money you want to spend and the emphasis you put on fries.

That is a great point. Most bars and restaurants here want to charge $6-7 for your normal pint of beer (16 oz)!! In this economy!!

You were really going to leave the restaurant because it was "too dark"? Okay, I get that if ambiance is one of your top prorities and you found that particular setting to be unenjoyable for you.

However, $4.25 for a 21oz. beer is not expensive, especially for a restaurant.

As for the french fries, you really should give your waitress a break. It was not her fault your fries were "too salty", and then you complained once again when it took 15 minutes to get fresh ones back from the kitchen (as you put it they were held up with "orders more important than yours"). Well, yeah. The kitchen was busy preparing first-time orders from customers and you had already received your food, so a wait is to be expected and you should not take that out on the poor waitress who is making the cost of your beer an hour plus tips (and with customers that complain that much, her tips probably aren't looking too bright).

As for the total cost of your order, $39.95 is not expensive at all for:
-2 21oz. beers (that's 42 oz. of beer for $8.50 at a restaurant - not bad at all)
-a 6oz. sirloin steak special that comes with two sides
-two hamburgers with french fries
-a Bloomin' Onion appetizer
-a soda

I think you are a little overly-critical and from the way you described your conversation with the waitress, it doesn't seem as if you are too pleasant of a consumer.

If you are nice to your servers, they will try their best to accomodate you.

PS) You cannot expect a server to know every price of every beer on the menu. If you asked her politely to go find out the price for you instead of just getting upset with her, I'm positive she would have happily retreived that information for you.
