Capitalism

reviewed by fitman

An economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market.

Capitalism 3

A vast improvement over feudalism, nearly brought down by corporate greed.

I'm standing back and watching to see whether or not Obama can save the racket from collapse like FDR once did.

Obvious - to all but the most fanatical - is the fact that mixed economies have been the most successful since the syndicalist experiment was crushed by the combined efforts of capitalist, fascist and state capitalist (Stalinist) authoritarian and totalitarian regimes in 1939.

Ok, at the risk of compelling you to actually think more and clarify some of your existing thinking, which "mixed" economies have been the "MOST" successful and what were they a mix of? (I know I'm going to regret engaging. . .) Since it's SSSOOOOO obvious. And please clarify the term syndicalist.

FDR saved what? I thought a world war was needed to shake the depression...

While it can't be denied that the war contributed to ending the Great Depression, it's also obvious that FDR's policies prevented a revolution in the years leading up to US participation in WWII.

FDR's policies prevented a revolution? That is obvious? We've only had one other revolution, we've had several depressions. It would be obvious only to someone determined to deflect any and all criticism for FDR's means of dealing with the Great Depression, which became the Great Depression only after FDR had been elected president. What IS obvious is the similarity of Obama's tactics to those of FDR.

I don't recall FDR throwing money at failed corporations, but I suppose I could be mistaken.

Apparently, wingers hate FDR despite the fact that his liberal policies in the '30s thwarted the plans of authoritarian Marxists for a takeover of the USA, and Marxists hate FDR because his liberal policies kept the proles from becoming desperate enough to revolt.

I suppose young people can't imagine an America where socialists actually had sufficient influence to be a threat to capitalism... however, if Obama fails (and I don't have much faith in him these days), they just might see a 'revolutionary situation' in the fairly near future.

Hatred is a strong word, used wrongly if accorded to me regarding FDR. In my opinion, he turned a 2 year recession into a 14 year "great" depression. I don't hate him for that or for any other reason. Lower your zeal a little. Have a beer or something.
