Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance 1

I've been using natural balance potato and duck for few years and my dogs got skin allergies and keep coughing.
I have 2 dogs, one of them has been coughing for years since I start to feed him potato and duck formular and I didn't realize why, now the other one start to coughing with same problems and now I got it.
I only use natural balance dog food and it was great at the begining,
the thing is HOW LONG I've been using the natural balance dog food.
When I read the reviews, problem always comes up when they are using it too long like I said.
My dogs got red skin on their feet, coughing, sometimes got wierd color on the skin around the eyes.
Not sure only the "potato and duck" makes problem with my dogs so
I'm gonna try the other small bag of the natural balance and will see.
Anybody has something about "potato and duck"?
Can anybody recommend a good one?

Use Pinnacle Duck and Pot. Try it. Only thing my boxer can eat right now. Best wishes. I've been there. Another one she almost tolerated was the Fromm Duck and Pot, but she's allergic to Chicken and it has Chicken cartilage in it. Spent hundreds with a allergy specialist, no chicken in her diet.

Pinnacle Duck and Pot and Trout and Sweet Pot. Good luck

It sounds weird, but dogs can develop a food allergy from continued eating of the same food, particularly a protein (duck, lamb, chicken, etc.) Therefore, what is recommended is that you try something completely different from what you've been feeding (for example, fish and sweet potato) or chicken and something other than potato. Apparently there's some difference between sweet potato and white potato, with sweet potatoes being better tolerated than white, so if you can't find something totally different (but grain free) from potato, I'd at least try a sweet potato mix. California Natural is one food I'm currently trying. It has limited ingredients and is no more expensive than Nat. Balance. Need to feed same thing, without snacks/treats, for at least a month to see if there's any difference. You also need to switch over the food slowly - one fourth new with 3/4 old for a couple days, then increase, over a period of a week. Dogs have sensitive stomachs! Good luck - I know it's frustrating! Might also want to go to forums on dogster.com - very informative and helpful to me.

Hey guys, this is great communicating. I already went through Cal Natural, all of them. My Annie kept scratching and shaking her head. For her it was the rice and chicken, or just rice with the other 2 options of protein. Lamb and Chicken. All that rice. I emailed Cal Nat (Natura) and they sent me coupons, I called them.....wanted to be able to feed there food, as they are a wonderful company. But my boxer could not tolerate any 3 of there foods......

She can only eat the Pinnacle Duck and Pot right now. I'm also looking at going back to Fromm for her the Whitefish and Pot. Fromm and Pinnacle have been the 2 best companies for her. My other boxer is eating the Fromm Salmon and is perfect. But he has NO allergies. Again Annie will be 1 yr old May 10. I'm taking her to the 2nd best VET school CSU and allergy testing will be done. The Pinnacle is only a 4 star food the Duck, but she's not sick. Keep me posted on your luck. Thank you. Sincerely.

I switched my 6mo old scottie to DVP NB sweet potato & vinison/deer; from the regular NB.....it put the oils back in his skin to stop the itching. His poop isn't as smelly & is easy to clean up....it's a dense,soft/firmish sorta make up.....so it stays together when u rake or scoop it....& not tear up & smash in with the yard. just like with humans....our poop tells us what we ate had the proper nutrients the body needed & extracted from the eaten food. Meaning...

when it's dense (it sinks to the bottom of the commode & not floats) & firm that means that the food we just passed has nutritionally served it's purpose.
He likes the sweet potato & vinison so much....lol...I use it also for training treats.....when he hears the food hitting the bowl...he does this happy, hop around, dance. Different formula's for different dog needs...shopping around for the right food is only a part of the pet care game. Don't be frustrated...hey...keep try'n them until u find what works best for ur dog.

From my research I found that NB is the best premium dog food for the money...."in my price range" at least....here in VA a 15lb bag is under 20.00...and depending on the size of ur dog...that bag will last a good while.....good food fills them up...so they'll eat less . cheap foods with fillers...run right thru the dog...sorta like Mc donalds...eat a burger 15mins later ur hungry again. I wish u sucess.

hey tshoe...when u said that annie scratches & shakes her head...u ever consider a possible ear infection?

tshoe commented 27 days ago.
Hello Bigblue, no ear infections. Took her to CSU 2nd best vet school, to allergy specialist also to another allergy specialist that went to Cornell Univ 1 vet school...no ear infections. And to a 3rd Holistic vet. It's food allergies and carpet...believe it or not. She's still after 4 months on California Nat Lamb and Rice Puppy even though she's 16 months old now, doing wonderful! (It has Lamb Meal, Brown Rice, Sunflower oil, then white Rice) It's time to rotate her onto something else, but I'm scared. Not sure how I'm going this time. But not with Nat Bal. I'm only looking for foods where the proteins are first then limited ingredients. Also feeding Evangers 100% rabbit and 100% Buffalo. And I'm baking sweet pot here at home for both my boxers twice a week and myself, giving them the skin and entire pot. Also I steam veggies weekly. This way they get more nutri. She's doing so much better. So when I cook for my husband and I they get the same healthy veggies. Good luck!
