Dwight David Eisenhower (1953-1961) 4

Progressive president, kept America out of war and very prosperous. Expanded the new deal and created interstate systems. The very interstates I curse every day during rush hour, but still apreciate nontheless.
i deleted a star because of the segregation of the time. The fifties weren't as wonderful as "Leave it to Beaver" made it look.
Still he seemed to be a really good and effective leader.

REALITY CHECK:
1)Ike was the first President to use the power of the feds to integrate schools in Little Rock Arkansas.
2) Leave it to Beaver was the 60's....not the 50's.
Guess you can give Ike his star back now.

Leave it to Beaver was 60's? Seriously? I thought they had color then.

I digress, i understand that the Dems back then were trying to keep America Seperate, but if he was as effective a Leader as I like to think, then more probably could have been done.

You're both right.

Comprising six full 39-week seasons (234 episodes), the show debuted on CBS on October 4, 1957, moved to ABC the following year, and completed its first run on June 20, 1963.

It's pretty obvious that it's a 50's show, though, given that it was conceived and developed in the 1950s, and cancelled in the early 1960's.

We are both right about the show...not about Ike and segregation.

See, and here I thought we weren't competely in disagreement. I'm not trying to discount what was done. i just think they could have done more, maybe its just my white guilt, I don't know.

Yeah, the supreme court really opened the door to desegregation in 1954. The south was complying with "deliberate speed," which meant not at all.

to Matt: and in some rural parts of America (including but not limited to the south), they are still dragging their feet.

Ayn...didn't you know? Only white people can be and are racist....and racism only exists in the south.
Laughing here.
